Zuhra Momin knows how to chart her own course. Since moving to the U.S. from Afghanistan in 2014, she’s made every decision with purpose, driven by a commitment to learning and a determination to build a meaningful career.
“My parents immigrated because of the war in Afghanistan at that time, and they wanted us to have a better education and life in general than they did,” she says. That vision shaped her sense of possibility—and inspired her to move fast toward her goals.
While still in high school, Zuhra sought out real-world experience that would give her an edge in the medical field. She discovered Emily Griffith Technical College and its accelerated Nurse Assisting program and immediately saw an opportunity to start strong.
“I learned about Emily Griffith through an accelerated CNA program that was being offered, and it intrigued me,” she says. “I wanted to join.”
Zuhra enrolled and completed the program in just five weeks while managing her high school coursework—a pace that speaks to her focus and work ethic. After passing her state exams, she earned her CNA license and stepped confidently into the next phase of her journey.
“I was interested in the CNA program because I am eager to pursue a career in medicine,” she explains. “I wanted to gain a head start on various careers to determine which one interests me the most.”
Through hands-on training, Zuhra discovered her passion for pediatrics and now plans to apply her skills in hospital or clinic settings. “I want to secure a job as a CNA in a hospital or clinic setting, specifically in pediatrics, because I’ve discovered that this is my area of interest,” she says. “I’m committed to obtaining it.”
Zuhra also sees professional development as a continuous path. She is already exploring additional certifications to broaden her impact. “I am also considering obtaining another certification as either an EKG technician or a Phlebotomist,” she says.
Zuhra’s tuition was covered, but she received some additional financial support, which empowered her to invest in the tools she knew would elevate her learning experience. “I used the financial support to purchase an iPad for school, which has significantly improved my studying skills,” she says.
She chose Emily Griffith for its student-centered approach and the flexibility that made it possible to accelerate her training without putting her education on hold. “Emily Griffith offers many focused career training programs that you can start in high school, which isn’t something every school has,” she explains. “Also, the way they connect you directly with employers and real internships is great.”
Her experience shows what’s possible when motivated students are given the right tools, support, and freedom to excel. “I am really glad I chose Emily Griffith,” she says. “It offers amazing opportunities and access to excellent programs that many other schools do not provide.”
For Zuhra, supporting the Emily Griffith Foundation is an investment in futures that are already in motion. “Donating to Emily Griffith makes a significant difference because it helps students who might not have the resources to pursue career programs or certifications,” she says. “Many people who attend Emily Griffith are striving to build a better future for themselves and their families, and donations help them gain access to essential tools, training, and opportunities that can transform their lives. Even a small donation can help someone complete their program or afford crucial supplies.”
Zuhra’s story is a clear reminder: when students are equipped with strong programs, financial support, and a belief in their potential, there is no limit to what they can accomplish. For her, this is only the beginning—and she’s ready for what comes next.
